Undergraduate Programs

Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.

MAJORS IN THEATRE AND DANCE

The Department offers a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre. In addition to a breadth of study in the major’s core (a 21-hour component shared by all majors), students are given the freedom to choose the general Theatre BA or one of five areas of focus, which include Performance, Costume Design and Technology, Scenic/Lighting Design and Technology, Theatre for Youth and Theatre Studies.

The Department also offers a Bachelor of Arts in Dance with either an emphasis in General Dance Studies or in Performance/Choreography. The major is comprised of a 29-hour core component and any student may declare the Dance major and complete the General Dance Studies concentration. Students interested in the Performance/Choreography concentration will be accepted through either audition or demonstration in course work of the technical proficiencies necessary to successfully complete the program.

Theatre B.A. to Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) in Theatre Education - Accelerated Program

This program provides preparation for students to enter the labor market as certified K-12 Theatre teachers upon completion of the Bachelor of Arts AND the MAT in the Performing Arts. Up to 12 credit hours of graduate-level course work taken as an undergraduate can be counted towards both degrees. The increased likelihood of employment and the pay increase that comes with obtaining an MAT degree makes the investment worthwhile and allows the student to earn two degrees very efficiently.

Students intending to pursue this program need to meet with program director as early as possible in their Undergraduate degree program.  Applications for admission to the program should be made by the end of the third (junior) year of study. Students will work with the Program Director to complete the appropriate courses during their senior year.

Admission to the program requires a minimum 3.200 overall GPA and completing the following:
